The Horizon Collection

Made with Calm. Designed to Last.

Some things are worth slowing down for.

Moku Design Studio began not as a business plan, but as a practice — a way to find stillness after years spent commuting, office-bound, and quietly unfulfilled in the world of advertising.

When that chapter closed, the workshop opened. Inspired by my grandfather — a master craftsman who still plays two rounds of golf a week in his late eighties — I returned to something real. To wood. To making. To the rural Sussex workshop where I spent some of my happiest hours growing up.

Every piece I make carries that philosophy. Rooted in wabi-sabi, the Japanese appreciation for imperfect, natural beauty, each item is shaped by hand with patience and intention. Not mass produced. Not rushed.

When you bring a Moku piece into your home, you're not just buying décor. You're owning something made with calm — and that calm comes with it.

Moku Design Studio is newly launched — but the craft behind it has been a lifetime in the making. Thank you for being here early.

The Wood. The Process. The Difference.

Every piece begins long before the making.

The timber comes first — hardwoods, tropical meranti and coconut, Scandinavian redwood, Scots pine, cypress, Japanese pine. Each piece of stock chosen on instinct, often without a plan, stored and waited on until the wood reveals what it wants to become. That moment of recognition — when grain, weight and form suggest a direction — is where every Moku design begins.

From there, the process is unhurried. Proportions are considered carefully, guided by a design philosophy rooted in balance and restraint. Where appropriate, shou sugi ban — the ancient Japanese technique of charring wood — is used to add depth, age and authenticity. Genuine Japanese inks bring subtle colour and warmth, enhancing the natural character of the grain rather than masking it.

Nothing here is manufactured. No two pieces are identical. What you receive is the result of materials, time and instinct working together — exactly as they should.

Genuinely Handmade

Every piece is made by hand in a family workshop in rural Sussex. No factories, no shortcuts.

Real Wood. Always.

We work only with natural timber — never MDF, veneer or composite. What you see is what the wood gave us.

One of a Kind

Natural grain variation means no two pieces are ever identical. You're not buying a product — you're owning an original.
